We recognise that the climate emergency is the biggest challenge facing our planet and profession. In 2022, we joined the Passive House Trust and now have two certified Passivhaus designers, Paul Rawsthorn and Mollie Lord.

Sustainability is increasingly high on the UK agenda with the Climate Change Act 2008, and the more recent 2021 Net Zero Strategy (NTS) setting out government targets, policies and proposals for decarbonising our economy.

• The built environment generates a significant proportion of carbon emissions, estimated to be up to 50% of the global total.
• Poorly designed and constructed buildings waste considerable amounts of energy.
• By 2050, the aim is to meet our country’s carbon neutrality or ‘Net-Zero’ target by balancing emissions of carbon dioxide with its removal or elimination.

We consider sustainability at the earliest stages of every project. Our commitment to sustainability is, first and foremost, in the detail, quality and specification of our buildings. To ‘future proof’ our built environment, we understand that a sustainable approach must encompass every aspect of the design and construction process. This includes reducing operational energy and embodied carbon, minimising water usage, and promoting the health and wellbeing of users.

We keep up-to-date with new technologies and materials and work collaboratively with other professionals to consider how to optimise energy efficiency. With our clients, we will always discuss and propose appropriate sustainable design solutions.
