Character homes in Effingham
We were approached with the challenging task of securing planning permission following a previous refusal that was dismissed at appeal.
Working closely with the client and wider professional team, we made sure that the proposals were sympathetic to the landscape character and setting in Effingham. We wanted the scheme to preserve the appearance and charm of the conservation area and heritage buildings nearby.
The scheme adopted a traditional Surrey style, appropriate to its rural location. With a distinctive palette of materials, colours, and textures, the development was given character and a sense of place. The ten new homes were designed with features, materials and finishes that were consistent with the traditional built form in the local area. These included plain roof tiles, tile-hanging with feature club tiles, facing brick, render and flint. All of these design factors were key to securing planning permission.
As a practice, we are committed to creating projects that enhance the local community and have a positive impact on our built environment.
