We were appointed after winning an architectural competition for a new sixth form centre with a contemporary design that we felt reflected the students’ forward thinking and future aspirations. The striking entrance façade comprises double height glazing rising to a dramatic floating roof. Sustainability was very much part of this scheme, and we incorporated a ground source heat pump, rainwater harvesting and high levels of insulation. For robustness and long-term durability, we chose rendered masonry walls and fairfaced internal blockwork.
