Sussex Healthcare

Over the past ten years, Lytle Associates Architects have collaborated with Sussex Health Care in the construction of over 120 special care bedspaces and 150,000ft2 of care accommodation.

As one of the country’s leading care providers, Sussex Health Care employ 750 staff and provide 500 bedspaces in all. The fifteen homes run by the group offer a range of services focused chiefly on care for older people (including people who are mentally frail with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease) and specialist care for adults with physical or learning difficulties (including people with neurological disabilities).

The accommodation has been constructed to an exceptional level of specification and includes purpose designed and innovative access equipment together with specialist therapeutic facilities, including hydrotherapy pools and computer suites.
Many of the new care homes are in green belt or countryside locations, which have presented challenging planning hurdles. Despite this position, a compelling case for development outside town or village boundaries has been presented, with a strong success rate.
