Celebrating ‘Women in Construction’
Introducing Naneh Ghazarians, a Part I Architectural Assistant at Lytle Associates
‘As an architectural student and musician, I want to be part of the process that creates buildings that inspire us to feel the same powerful emotions we feel when we listen to great music’.
Having studied Chemistry, Biology and Music at A level, Naneh was struggling to choose between a career in medicine or music. Music won the day and she applied to study this at university. However, during the pandemic, whilst watching her architect father work from home and chatting with him about what his job entailed, Naneh had an epiphany!
Through their discussions, she began to not only perceive architecture from a design point of view but also to see how structure and functionality contribute to creating a building that is both beautiful and fit for purpose. Naneh became fascinated by the overlap between the principles of music – such as harmony, rhythm and proportion – and the key elements of great architecture.
Naneh completed her Part 1 at the University of Portsmouth last summer, for which she received a 1st. She then spent the summer at the University of Michigan undertaking research on ‘passive cooling strategies for self-built homes in low-income communities’. Naneh joined us last September and will be with us until she begins her Masters degree this September.
