New dining block for Barfield Prep School delivered to a tight programme and budget
The first phase of our 2020 masterplan for this successful local prep school involved a traditional remodeling and extension of their existing historic building to give improved teaching space. The next phase was to create dedicated new dining and kitchen facility, located to maximise views across the beautiful grounds and double as an events and entertaining space.
We explored options with the client and recommended the appointment of TG Escapes as the optimum solution to give the school a high quality, sustainable building within their tight timescale, at a fixed price, and within the constraints of the existing mature trees. We obtained planning permission on behalf of the school and were retained as employer’s agent and contract administrators to help make sure the build process ran smoothly.
In just 4 months, the new 281m2 commercial kitchen and dining facility was installed, built on low-impact foundations to protect the trees. With its timber cladding and covered external deck, the building sits well in its natural surroundings.
This new building, which was officially opened last month, has transformed lunchtimes for everyone by providing lots of natural light and great views across the surrounding trees and playing fields.
