Last month, our two certified Passivhaus Designers, Paul and Mollie, attended the Passivhaus Conference, UKPHC23, in Edinburgh.
It was an informative conference under the heading ‘Scotland Leads the Way’. It focused on targets set by the city of Edinburgh to achieve a net zero operational CO2 target for 2030, with the Scottish government planning to follow suit by 2040.
The speakers discussed these ambitious targets and why Passivhaus is the route to zero-carbon. There was significant emphasis on education projects – where Scotland is currently adopting the ‘Passivhaus Standard – Scottish Equivalent’ – with an impressive Primary Efficiency Target of 67kwh/m²/yr for all new-build schools. Case studies and topics included large-scale mixed-use & student accommodation, developer-led housing, retrofit design, delivery details and challenges for the future of Passivhaus design.
In between the speeches, Paul and Mollie enjoyed networking with other industry professionals. They came away feeling inspired and ready to bring more Passivhaus to our local area!
