Planning permission for Fullbrook 6th Form extension
We are delighted to have recently achieved planning permission for a two storey extension and internal alterations to the existing sixth form facilities at Fullbrook School. The new extension creates an iconic building to give special identity to the successful and growing Fullbrook 6 where students can be inspired to achieve.
Using our expertise in school masterplanning Lytle Associates Architects were initially appointed to prepare a feasibility study looking at the long-term future and potential development options for the existing sixth form centre. Fullbrook is a large mixed comprehensive school for 11 to 18 year old students and an Academy with specialist Mathematics, Science & Technology College status.
The new two storey extension will provide new teaching spaces, common room, flexible quiet study areas and associated administration and office spaces all provided to meet recommendations of BB103. New landscaping and tree/shrub planting will enhance this area of the campus, including a new access ramp, relocated cycle storage and a separate sixth form kitchen servery access.
The proposals also include the refurbishment of the existing sixth form block, including the addition of a new lecture room, new media suite, improved classroom spaces and relocation of the existing kitchen and common room areas.
The two-storey building is in keeping with the height of surrounding buildings. Materials have been chosen to both match and complement the existing sixth form block. This includes red brick, feature grey cladding panels, flat roofs, and coloured panels to windows. A glazed entrance area and timber cladding softens the appearance of the building to provide a visual contrast to the existing building and add a contemporary feel.
