Boarding accommodation
The benchmark for good boarding accommodation has risen dramatically over the past few years – both in terms of the legal guidance and parental expectations. At Lytle Associates we have an excellent working knowledge of the current legislation, and also understand the significant role that good boarding accommodation can have in marketing places at a school.
A school boarding house will be home to the pupils who live there for several months at a time. This means that the boarding accommodation must have a human scale, a sense of personalisation and privacy. Pupils want their boarding house to feel special, with its own character and identity which they can feel proud of. Good quality social spaces and integrated wifi are now standard, as are ensuite study bedrooms for older pupils. An attractive ‘collegiate’ atmosphere can really sell facilities to prospective parents.
We also understand the demands of estate bursars and maintenance managers. Boarding accommodation must meet the highest standards of robustness, ease of maintenance and flexibility to meet changing school demands such as flexi-boarding or external hire during holiday periods.
